1. To be able to: Use and understand key language of sequences and series A sequence is an ordered list of elements. We use U? for the first term, U? for the second and so on. Un is the general term (nth term). A series is the sum of a finite or infinite sequence of numbers. We use S? to denote the sum of the first n terms. Examples: Sequences can be described in many ways; some have rules and reason but others do not. At A Level we will consider how to describe sequences recursively and we will look at the behaviour of arithmetic and geometric sequences.
