24 hours ago, at /:59 AM Class, accessibility to health care in rural areas across our country is a real issue. I grew up in WV, 25 miles to the nearest hospital...which is close when you think about some of the areas of WV. Even the larger hospitals in WV have access issues, bed shortage and long waits for specialty care. My mother had to wait in a smaller hospital for 5 days for a bed to open up to be transferred four hours away to the hospital for her open heart surgery. This smaller hospital was not a critical access hospital...they just didn't do heart surgery. I realize now living in South Florida how lucky and also spoiled I am as we have many hospitals to chose from and we fret if we have to wait a week or two for an appointment for a non-urgent issue.
