A conventional activated sludge plant has a flow of 12mgd with an influent BOD of 250mg/1 and suspended solids of 230mg/1. The primary clarifier removes 25 percent of the BOD. The 10 aeration tanks are 40ft,100ft long, and 15ft deep. The concentration of MLSS is 2600mg/1. quantity of waste sludge is 0.18mgd and suspended solids in waste sludge is 8600mg/1. BOD and suspended solids in the treatment plant effluent are 25mg/1 and 20mg/1 respectively. Determine: i) Detention time in each tank ii) Aeration tank BOD loading iii) F/M ratio iv) Sludge age v) Plant BOD removal efficiency vi) Plant suspended solids removal efficiency vii) Discuss the types of microorganisms. viii) Write the important biochemical equations in the aeration tank.
