A modified Rankine cycle with regeneration, using two closed
feedwater heaters and one open heater, is shown in the accompanying
figure. The cycle receives 100 kg/s of steam at the inlet of the
high pressure turbine. The feedwater temperature at the outlet of
the second closed heater is 3 degrees below the saturation
temperature of the steam used to heat it. If the turbine and pumps
have an isentropic efficiency of 89%, use the data given in the
table to
a) Make a T-s diagram of the cycle using Termograf, also use it to
complete the data table below. (Recommendation: the balance in the
condenser do it manually).
b) Calculate the fractions of the mass flow, w, y, z that are
extracted from the turbine.
c) If the mass flow of cooling water is 4200 kg/s, calculate the
temperature rise of that stream as it passes through the condenser.
Assume cp = 4.18 for the cooling water.
d) Calculate the rate of heat rejection in the condenser and the
thermal efficiency of the cycle.
