Apply thermodynamics
Question 5 [23 Marks] The following information of a small power plant is provided: The inlet \( (1) \) of the pump \( (1 \rightarrow 2) \) is saturated liquid. Steam is produced at \( P_{3}=3 \quad M P a \), \( T_{3}=600^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) in the boiler \( (2 \rightarrow 3) \). In the high pressure turbine section \( (3 \rightarrow 4) \), steam is expanded to a superheated vapour at \( P_{4}=\mathbf{5 0 0} \mathbf{~ k P a} \). The steam is then reheated \( (4 \rightarrow 5) \), followed by further expansion \( (5 \rightarrow 6) \) in the low pressure turbine to a saturated vapour. The condenser \( (6 \rightarrow 1) \) is kept at \( 45^{\circ} \mathrm{C} \) by the transfer of \( 10 \mathrm{MW} \) out as heat transfer. a) Draw a \( T \)-s diagram of the cycle. Assume an isentropic pump and turbines. (8) b) Find the reheat temperature, \( T_{5} \). (2) c) Find the mass flow rate, \( \dot{m} \). (8) d) Find the total boiler heat transfer (including reheat).
