Keiko, a 23 year old, female, Japanese college student has several risk factors that make her more vulnerable to anxiety. First, her mother suffers from panic disorder (genetic). Second, as a child, Keiko grew up observing her mother retreat to her room for several days after having a panic episode, leaving little Keiko to take care of herself from the age of 3 (psychological). Finally, as an adult, Keiko views any stressful situation (i.e., first day of school, starting a new job, etc..) as potentially threatening, and likely to trigger her anxiety, so she ends up avoiding new things, or even responsibilities such as attending the first day of class, etc... This 3rd vulnerability is also known as a _____________________.
