Suppose that air at 101.3 kP a and 288 K enters an axial compressor with a velocity of 170 m/s. Assume, as we did in class, that air enters and leaves a compressor stage along the axial direction, and further that the velocity at the exit of the stator is identical to the velocity at the inlet of the rotor. Let the hub and tip diameters be 0.457 m and 0.66 m, respectively, and let the rotors rotate at 8000 rpm. The air is turned by 15◦ as it passes through the rotor blades. Note that these are exactly the same values as the problem we worked out in class. we computed the velocity triangles by focusing on the mid-section of the rotor and stator. Compute the velocity triangles instead at the hub. Compute the compressor work and stage pressure ratio using the velocity triangle computed at the hub. Repeat the same calculations (velocity triangles, compressor work, and stage pressure ratio), but this time at the tip of the rotor and stator blades. You can assume that air is an ideal gas, and that R = 287.16 J/kg/K, and \gamma = 1.4.
