Description of System UTHM aspires to become a Global Technopreneur University (GTU) by 2030. Many research and development projects are on-going to support this aspiration, among them is PACER (Precision Agriculture in a Controlled Environment Research). PACER is an indoor farming facility in which crops are grown inside the facility in a controlled environment, with precise control of temperature, humidity, CO?, water, lighting etc as shown in Figure 1. Task 3.1 Your group are assigned to propose insulation for the facility to minimize heat leak from the ambient. The parameters related to the design of the insulation is as follows: The inner walls of the facility are made by 3 mm thick AISI 304 stainless steels • The insulating material can be any material at your choice (thickness shall be calculated) • The outer wall shall be made from cement board (5 mm thickness) • The outer most layer shall be painted (0.3 mm thickness) • The minimum indoor temperature is 15°C, while the maximum ambient temperature is 40°C, with relative humidity (RH) of 70%. 3.2 By clearly stating your assumptions, design an optimum insulation for PACER. The proposed insulation system must meet these 2 requirements: . No condensation shall occur on the outer most layer of the facility (must be proven in analysis) Minimum insulation thickness is preferred to reduce cost 3.3 Prepare a technical report for this task. All material properties, data, specification etc must be included in References/Appendix. The technical report and respective marks are as follows: • Introduction (10%) • Primary Assumptions and Design Approach (10%) physical and thermal properties, cost etc • Thermal Resistance Network (10%) • Analysis and Discussion (including (40%) (10%) • Schematics of the Final Design • Costing (10%) .
