The plot below of load vs. extension was obtained using a specimen (shown in the following figure) of an alloy remarkably similar to the aluminum-killed steel found in automotive fenders, hoods, etc. The crosshead speed, v, was 3.3×10?4 inch/second. The extension was measured using a 2"? extensometer as shown (G). Eight points on the plastic part of the curve have been digitized for you. Use these points to help answer the following questions. Construct a table with the following headings, left-to-right: Extension, load, engineering strain, engineering stress, true strain, true stress. Fill in for the eight points on graph. What is the percentage difference between true and engineering strains for the first point? (i.e., %=…x I00) What is the percentage difference between true and engineering strains for the last point? c. Plot the engineering and true stress-strain curves on a single graph using the same units.
