Leukocytes are the other name given to the white blood cells and are part
of the body's immune system.

Leukocytes are nucleated cells found in the blood along with red blood cells (anucleated) and platelets. These are formed in the bone marrow and lymph nodes. The main function of these cells is to fight infection and other diseases, thus forming the first line of defense against any infection.
The leukocytes are of two types--
1. Granulocytes
2. Agranulocytes

1. Granulocytes have granules in the cytoplasm and are formed in bone marrow. These are further divided into following types;
a. Neutrophils
b. Basophils
c. Eosinophils

2. Agranulocytes lack granules in the cytoplasm and originate from lymph nodes. These are of two types;
a. Monocytes
b. Lymphocytes
