Given the current "STATE OF EMERGENCY" our country is experiencing related to COVID-19, there has been a lot of focus on the elderly population; specifically, how they are especially susceptible to the virus and limitations they have to healthcare (routine medical appointments are being cancelled or moved to virtual means), socialization (visitors are denied at nursing homes), and necessary resources (toilet paper!, distilled water for breathing machines).

• After reviewing the information in this chapter related to OLDER ADULTS IN SOCIETY, consider the impact that national emergencies such as health pandemics, war, or other environmental stressors have on the elderly population in our country.
• Write an essay on such stressors as well as what ideas you have for addressing the stressors currently AND ideas you have regarding ways to reduce the impact such stressors have on our most vulnerable populations in the future.
